Daggett County commissioners reviewed a draft community events calendar and discussed logistics, vendor participation and limited budget estimates during a meeting that covered a full year of planned activities.
"September 5, Daggettaste parade and fair," said Speaker 3, announcing the date for the county's Daggettaste parade and vendor fair. Commissioners also noted an Oktoberfest planned for October 10 and raised options for its format.
Speaker 4 suggested considering a traditional-format Oktoberfest with beer service and said, "You might consider a liquor license," while Speaker 2 cautioned about the rules and liability related to alcohol service and observed a private vendor could operate a beer truck on site.
Commissioners discussed timing the event to capture fall visitation from hunters. "It's a Hunter's Oktoberfest," Speaker 2 said, recommending earlier start times and later end times to accommodate hunting crowds and other seasonal visitors.
The group also reviewed other recurring events. Speaker 3 said the Truck-or-Treat on Oct. 30 "went well" and that participants are already planning for next year. Speakers clarified that this year's Christmas-in-the-park is on the sixth and will move to the fifth next year.
On promotion and offsite outreach, Speaker 1 and Speaker 2 discussed possible county participation at regional boat shows and noted concerns about cost and space. Speaker 1 estimated booth costs could be "Like, 5 to 10,000," and said organizers sometimes resist shared county/vendor space.
The commission agreed the calendar provided a useful planning guide but noted several events still lack confirmed dates (Derby Fest and Sweat Ranch were cited as examples). Speaker 3 said administrative adjustments could be made outside the meeting if needed.
Before moving on to the next agenda items, Speaker 3 called a short break: "Well, let's take a 5 minute recess, and then we'll come back and move on to items number 2 and number 3."
