The Mayfield Town Council voted Dec. 10 to launch a voluntary paperless-billing pilot that gives customers a $1 credit for three months. Kristen, a town staff member who presented the proposal, detailed the per-bill postage and materials cost and said the town would use an email system to deliver invoices and an opt-in form to track enrollments.
Kristen explained the operational approach: customers who opt in will receive bills by email and will still be able to use existing payment methods, including autopay. She said the pilot would begin Jan. 1 and run through Mar. 31, with a one-dollar credit applied to participants’ accounts. The council discussed setting an expiration to prevent the program from becoming an ongoing cost and agreed to a limited three-month incentive window.
Council moved and approved the motion to adopt the pilot program; staff will develop the enrollment form, include a notice in the January newsletter and preserve opt-in records to allow customers to change preferences later.
What’s next: Town staff will prepare the enrollment form and a newsletter item, and return a finalized administration procedure for council record-keeping and billing adjustments.
