Emery County travel office seeks grants and updates maps after TRT rate change

Unidentified Speaker 5 said the county recently increased the local transient room tax (TRT) rate after state legislation passed in February; that change was required to make the county eligible for new state grant programs aimed at tourism mitigation, emergency medical services and search-and-rescue support. Local business representatives on the TRT business-collector board reported no objections to the local increase.
The travel office also asked volunteers and local groups to submit event photos and recaps for monthly social-media recaps; staff noted ongoing work to coordinate map features across BLM, forest, county and private land boundaries.
No formal approvals of tourism grants occurred at the meeting; staff are preparing applications and design materials for potential fall printing.
