The Kane County Commission unanimously adopted its tentative budget for fiscal 2026 after a presentation from county clerk/auditor Shamille Lam.
Lam told the commission the tentative figures reflect completion of several building projects and the transfer of a sand-dunes project to UDOT, producing an overall decrease of nearly $14 million compared with 2025. The proposed budget includes a 2.6% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for county employees and elected officials and anticipated savings from a change in the county’s insurance provider.
Lam said the E‑911 fund shows a planned increase to support a GIS mapping update and that some COVID-related funding remains; commissioners agreed to apply leftover COVID funds to a bond payment after first covering outstanding parking-lot costs.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about COLA distribution and the COVID funding timeline; Lam said the county would continue to review department requests and refine numbers before final adoption. An unidentified commissioner moved adoption of the tentative budget and the motion carried unanimously.
The tentative budget now moves through the standard public-notice and adoption process; commissioners indicated they would meet further with departments for in‑depth review before the final budget vote.
