Kane County approves five rural grant awards totaling $76,000 for local projects

The Kane County Commission on Nov. 18 approved five rural county grant awards recommended by the Kane County Economic Opportunity Board and funded through the Governor's Office of Economic Opportunity.
The approved awards and amounts as presented were: Stellar Vista Observatory — $25,000 to extend power to a proposed observatory at Jackson Flat Reservoir; Women’s Leadership Initiative — $7,000 for a county leadership program; Southwest Tech trainings — $15,000 for workforce training; Kane County Hospital advanced EMT trainings — $24,000; and Raising Cane Business Summit — $5,000 to support the county’s premier business event.
Commissioners voted to approve all five recommendations as a lump motion; the board had recommended approval of each item by a 3–1 vote in at least one case. Staff explained eligible uses include business recruitment and development, workforce training, infrastructure and capital improvements to support business development.
Why it matters: The awards target workforce development, public programming and infrastructure that county leaders say will support local businesses and public safety capacity.
What’s next: Staff will incorporate the awards into the county budget and coordinate grant agreements and reporting with award recipients.
