Corinne council appoints Colby Fogel to fill vacant seat

The Corinne City Council appointed Colby Fogel to fill one vacant council seat after a public introduction and question-and-answer period with two applicants.
Fogel told the council he and his family purchased the old elementary school two years ago and that he works from home. “I just would like to give back to my community and find ways to help out and keep Corinne … a special and safe place to raise a family,” Fogel said during his introduction. He said his background in construction and project management would help provide oversight on the city’s ongoing sewer work and other infrastructure projects.
Joshua Morris, the other applicant, described nearly 11 years in law enforcement and said his interest was in helping preserve the city’s current character rather than pursuing major changes. The council asked both candidates about growth and the county’s annexation policy; Fogel said he favored local control, noting, “I don’t agree with that personally. I think, you know, the reason Corinne’s so great is because the control stays right in this room.”
After questions, the council conducted a public hand-raise vote and appointed Fogel. The mayor told Fogel that new-elected-official training is available (in-person at Utah State on Dec. 6 or online Dec. 13) and that the swearing-in will occur at the council’s first meeting on Jan. 6.
The appointment fills the single seat that remained after a canceled election; the mayor encouraged the unsuccessful candidate to consider other opportunities to serve.
