Planning commission backs rewritten response letter for Hunter solar battery storage and forwards it to County Commission

The Emery County Planning Commission on June 23 reviewed a rewritten conditional-use (CU) response letter for the Hunter solar battery storage project and voted to forward the document to the Emery County Commission with the expectation the county attorney would review it.

Speaker 6, who reviewed the rewrite, told the commission that the changes were largely administrative: "the wording is pretty much the same thing" and the applicant "just wanted to make sure that the new company or whatever had their name on there and then a few words for funding." Chair (Speaker 2) summed up the body's view that the rewrite did not alter substantive approvals and proposed sending the revised letter on with the commission's backing and "the expectation of a county attorney favorable report."

Commissioners directed staff to place the matter on the County Commission agenda so the county attorney could address it in that forum. The Planning Commission did not change any conditional-use terms on the project; the action before the Planning Commission was to approve the rewritten response letter as conforming and forward it for final review.

Next steps: the item will appear on the Emery County Commission agenda for formal consideration and any legal review from the county attorney.
