Kane County commissioners on Nov. 25 unanimously adopted Ordinance 2025-43, a county policy implementing the Utah Governmental Data Privacy Act.
County staff explained the ordinance sets local standards for how the county will collect, process, store and safeguard personal data. The principles highlighted in the meeting included transparency about why data are collected, minimizing data collection to what is necessary, maintaining accurate records, protecting data against unauthorized access or disclosure, assigning privacy responsibilities to a designated official, and lifecycle management to delete data that are no longer needed.
