Historic preservation surveys progress; downtown RFP closes this week; commission honors departing member

Planning staff provided updates on two ongoing historic-survey efforts and read a resolution recognizing a departing commission member.
South Capitol survey: Staff said the consultant is preparing reconnaissance forms for roughly 200 properties in the survey area; 20 forms have already been provided for review and SHPO returned them with minor corrections. About 13 sites in the attachment are vacant lots; staff recommended summarizing those rather than creating individual full-site records. Staff will request commissioner assistance if the commission can supply early occupant information for properties where early-owner research is incomplete.
Downtown survey: Staff reported that the downtown survey RFP solicitation closes this Friday at 5 p.m.; proposals already received will be forwarded to the selection committee (Commissioners Nobland and Zanker) for review, and the final selection will be presented at the commission's next meeting.
Resolution of appreciation: The commission read a resolution recognizing James "Scooter" Pursley for his service to the Bismarck Historic Preservation Commission and applauded his contributions in the meeting, though Pursley was not present.
The commission set its next meeting for Jan. 21, 2026, in the Tom Baker Room.
