The work includes pavement rehabilitation, blast-pad repairs, new conduit and lighting infrastructure and replacement of lighting cans to meet FAA certification.
Staff said the FAA required a prompt response and that the grant covers roughly 95% of the project. The commission authorized acceptance of the grant and empowered the mayor to sign the offer electronically. Staff will return to a future meeting with contractor bids, negotiated project costs and a recommended contract acceptance.
Commissioners asked whether the grant would affect funding available for the terminal project; staff said FAA sequencing and pavement-condition priorities dictate the runway work be done first, and that the grant will reduce the local share for this project (the city’s share remains subject to final bid numbers).
Next steps: staff to finalize the acceptance paperwork, collect contractor bids and return with a detailed project budget and contract award recommendations.
