City outlines Great Depression education kits for Bismarck schools

City staff briefed the Bismarck Historic Preservation Commission on a 2024 Historic Preservation Fund project to create two local-history education kits focused on the Great Depression in Bismarck.
"The overarching topic of the kits is the Great Depression in Bismarck," Lauren said, noting the project will produce two distinct kits (K–5 and 6–12) with a table of contents, object/photo lists, activity guides with worksheets, a teacher guide and a bibliography. Each activity will reference North Dakota learning standards to help teachers integrate the materials into lesson plans.
Staff said a draft activity page was included in the meeting packet to illustrate layout and that the project team includes members of this commission, representatives from the Bismarck Historical Society and a teacher from Bismarck Public Schools. No formal action is required at this stage; the subcommittee and staff will continue development and return with further updates.
