Commissioners approve fiscal housekeeping amendments, begin audit and accept road report

Uvalde County commissioners approved a set of line-item budget amendments that county finance staff said are required housekeeping for the upcoming audit of the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2025.

County finance staff explained the amendments cover funds 11 through 48 and are routine transfers of excess line-item balances within the same fund to ensure revenues and expenses are correctly certified for the auditor and the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The auditor told the court the audit will begin next week and is expected to take four to five weeks.

During the meeting the road superintendent presented the road administration report covering Jan. 8'21. The report listed blading on County Roads 336 and 346, grass-cutting and brush removal on multiple roads, pothole repairs, equipment moves, chip-sealing the back portion of County Road 414, narrowing/widening near a bridge on County Road 416, and installation of six speed bumps with signage in Uvalde Estates. After brief discussion the court moved, seconded and approved the road report.

The court also approved routine monthly reports and the payment of bills; recorded votes were voice votes and the chair announced the motions carried.

Why it matters: The budget amendments are required for the county's financial audit and will be examined by outside auditors; the road report documents recent local road maintenance and traffic-calming installations affecting residents.

What comes next: The county audit will proceed within the next month; commissioners did not add nonroutine policy changes in this meeting.
