Crafton Planning Commission agrees to refine bylaws, targets formal approval next month

The Crafton Planning Commission on Jan. 27 reviewed a circulated draft of revised bylaws and agreed to a small set of edits, including deleting Section 7 to avoid unintended procedural requirements. Commissioners asked staff to renumber the draft and resend it for final review before the scheduled approval vote next month.

The commission acknowledged Alan’s role in preparing the draft and discussed multiple sections in detail. Commissioners questioned Article 4, Section 8 (vacancies and officer elections) and Article 6, Section 2 (timing for distribution of draft minutes). One member suggested distributing draft minutes within 5–7 working days so concerns remain fresh; the chair indicated the existing language is permissive and that the change could be addressed as a business process rather than a bylaw amendment.

On a procedural point, several members expressed concern that Section 7’s language could create an unnecessary requirement for roll-call votes in routine matters; members agreed to delete Section 7 and renumber the subsequent sections. Staff were asked to send an updated version and to add bylaws approval as an agenda item at the next regular meeting. Commissioners generally agreed the draft is basic and probably does not require an external legal review, but they said counsel could be consulted if staff or commissioners prefer.

The group approved the meeting’s draft minutes at the start of the session and adjourned after discussing other new-business items; the bylaws package will return for formal action at the next meeting.
