Appalachian Power says VA-3 fiber build about 50% complete in Henry County; customers should sign up with River Street

Rob Mann of Appalachian Power briefed supervisors on the county's VA-3 broadband project and urged residents to watch for provider sign-up information.
"We are hanging fiber. We're about 50% done with their fiber construction," Mann said, noting the project spans six line routes in Henry County. He told the board that aerial ("air") construction is expected to be complete in late fourth quarter 2026 and that River Street Networks will serve as a retail service provider that customers should sign up with to receive advance notices when service is ready in a neighborhood.
County staff said timelines vary neighborhood to neighborhood and that residents can also call the county administration office for an address-level estimate, but will receive the most accurate notices by signing up on the ISP's site. Mann said Appalachian Power will share a more detailed update at a future board meeting.
