A staff member told the commission March 25 that one interviewee, Nicole, currently falls outside the program’s income threshold and therefore cannot participate. Commissioners and staff discussed outreach options including Facebook posts, flyers, an in‑person Q&A or Zoom session and direct contact with local partners (Forest Service, schools, businesses) to raise awareness and answer questions for potential applicants.
Staff recommended recruiting one to two backup applicants in case pending applications do not qualify. Commissioners said they were willing to support outreach and asked staff to coordinate timing and locations for informational meetings.
Why it matters: The self‑help model depends on a minimum number of qualifying households to proceed. Without sufficient qualified applicants the county risks delaying or canceling the cohort.
What’s next: Staff will organize outreach (including a suggested evening meeting and possible flyers to Dutch John and local institutions) and report back to the commission on additional applications.
