County staff updated commissioners on design details for a proposed sewer extension, emphasizing that the system is built for gravity flow and that specific easement language will govern future hookups. "It's so strongly designed for gravity flow sewer that that's its focus," said Speaker 1, who led the technical overview.
Speaker 2 said preliminary calculations indicate the planned work can accommodate immediate subdivision connections (Ilocetta and Green Acres) and probably roughly double that load, but a full hydraulic model is being developed. "We have those are kind of more of the preliminary numbers, but there is a full model that's being worked on for that as well," Speaker 2 said.
The group discussed a recurring overflow point near the planned RV station. Speaker 2 warned that "it can, during peak times, reach full level, and so it it's backed up on that," and said designers, budget permitting, want to add a relief line to the highway main to reduce backups.
Commissioners also debated funding sources for mitigation work. The group said some elements overlap between an EPA grant and Community Infrastructure Board (CIB) funding; Speaker 2 noted the preference to pursue CIB funding if available for the core project area. The presentation concluded with staff committing to bring the full model and refined cost estimates back to the commission.
No formal action was taken on the sewer project during the session; staff said they will continue design work, finalize capacity modeling and return with funding recommendations.
