Commission authorizes start of Bureau of Reclamation water service contract renewal; water-right proof tabled

Commissioners voted to authorize staff to begin the renewal process for Daggett County's water service contract with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and tabled a separate water-right proof item for one week.
A county staff member said the 25-year water service contract with the Bureau of Reclamation is due for renewal in March and reported contact from a BOR representative requesting an official county request to begin the renewal process. The commission moved to direct county staff to prepare and submit that request.
Separately, discussion on proof for water-right application number 41-3470 focused on clarifying existing county water-right records and whether the right applies to stored reservoir water. Commissioners noted the proof deadline is on or before Oct. 31 and asked staff to consult with legal/technical advisors (Craig and Dave Harpixson were mentioned). The commission tabled the water-right proof item for one week to obtain that input.
No formal costs or new contractual terms were adopted at the meeting; the vote authorized staff to proceed with negotiations and paperwork to start the BOR renewal process. The water-right proof item will return to the agenda after staff and legal consultation.
