The pilot will schedule staggered monthly visits — for example, the first Thursday in Manila and the third Thursday in Dutch John — with professional librarians on site for roughly five hours to serve students after school, people on lunch breaks and other residents. Karen said the library already has 133 patrons with Daggett County addresses and hopes to expand that number through outreach and local partnerships.
Commissioners and residents raised logistics and asked whether schools and community buildings could host the stops. Karen asked the county for a small indoor space with a table, book cart, shelving and Wi‑Fi so the minivan need not remain idle in the parking lot; she said the library has a memorandum of understanding under legal review that will spell out expectations and parking considerations and that she will forward that MOU to county staff once approved.
The presenter said there are no fees for Daggett County to start the pilot and that cost‑sharing discussions could follow later. She also outlined programming ambitions — story time for toddlers, STEM and take‑home kits, and a plan to expand collections (including large‑print materials) for seniors and patrons with vision impairment. The full bookmobile is a longer‑term goal, with bids being solicited and a target of providing a conventional bookmobile service by 2027.
County staff offered a county contact to schedule space and volunteers and residents offered to assist with outreach and newsletter distribution. The presenter said the library will advertise visits on social media and through local newsletters and provide flyers to notify residents of the schedule.
