Board approves server-room construction and increases HVAC job-order contract to $4M

Butte County supervisors approved a notice to proceed and related contract amendment that together will enable construction of a new county server room at 308 Nelson and allow the county to use its existing Job Order Contract (JOC) contractor for the work.
Mike Hodson, director of general services, said the server-room project will create a cooled, rack-based environment to improve resilience and reduce downtime for county servers. The board approved a notice to proceed for $1,948,742 and authorized Hodson as the officer of the project.
Hodson also proposed increasing the authorized JOC value for Air Systems Services Construction (ASSC) from $2,000,000 to $4,000,000 so the contractor already mobilized for HVAC replacement at 308 Nelson can incorporate the server-room scope. Hodson said the county normally authorizes JOC increments in $2,000,000 steps and will return as increments are reached; the board approved the amendment and authorized the chair to sign.
The board approved both items unanimously and directed staff to proceed with project implementation.
Implementation notes: staff will issue notices to proceed for specific work orders within the JOC and manage scope and costs under existing contracting rules.
