Commission renews city manager's contract with salary increase to $229,500

The Decatur City Commission voted Monday to renew the city manager's employment agreement for two years with a compensation adjustment.
Staff presented the renewal package and said the only substantive change in the contract was an updated salary level of $229,500, retroactive to Jan. 1, 2025. City leaders said the adjustment reflects a salary study of DeKalb County peer cities and the manager's scope overseeing multiple municipal services including schools and a housing authority.
Commissioners praised the manager's leadership and the evaluation process; following a motion and second, the commission approved the agreement by recorded "aye" votes on the public record.
The contract is effective retroactively and will be revisited in future negotiations as staff continues to study peer compensation levels.
