Ephraim Library outlines 'Color Your World' summer program, ScanFest presence and teen makerspace plans

Library staff presented a full slate of summer activities on April 15, including a ScanFest family-activity booth to kick off the "Color Your World" summer-reading theme, a schedule of color-themed events for children and families, and a plan to offer teen tinker/makerspace sessions that culminate in 3D printing at Snow College.

"The theme is color your world," the director said as he described a series of events the library will run every couple of weeks — red Teddy Bear picnics, an Emerald City/Wizard of Oz green event, a Percy Jackson blue party in place of a Harry Potter event and a family movie purple night — and noted staff will hand out sign-up materials and craft bags at ScanFest.

Staff also outlined operational details: possible hours for ScanFest participation, volunteer sign-up procedures, intern recruitment through Snow College, and a plan to avoid duplicating community events already offered elsewhere. For teens, the library plans Tinkercad sessions and an end-of-summer project that could be 3D printed at the college makerspace.

Board members discussed logistics — pool-party alternatives, food-truck permitting burdens and how to promote Spanish-language offerings in area schools — and offered to help with outreach and volunteer coordination. Staff said they will send sign-up links and timelines by email and will bring updates to the board as plans and intern hires firm up.

The board approved continuing the planned programming and asked staff to provide a volunteer sign-up and the finalized schedule ahead of the first events.
