Cemetery board approves updated bylaws, will send them to city council

The Beacon City Cemetery Board voted on a pair of routine governance items during its March meeting, approving minutes from Feb. 12 and accepting a finalized set of cemetery bylaws for submission to the city council.
Board chair Beverly Thomas opened discussion on the bylaws included in the meeting packet, saying the document lays out board composition, meeting frequency, attendance requirements, resignation and vacancy procedures, and other operational rules. "These bylaws are our final product that we worked on," Thomas said, and she asked the board for approval to send them to the city council.
At that point a board member who identified himself earlier as Steven Crossley moved to accept the bylaws. Thomas called for a voice vote; members responded in the affirmative and Thomas said the bylaws "will get it on the next city council agenda." The transcript records a voice approval but does not include a roll-call tally or the name of the second for the motion.
Earlier in the meeting the board reviewed the Feb. 12 minutes and noted a single spelling correction (the word “except” on line 45). A motion to approve the minutes with that amendment passed on a voice vote; the transcript does not record a formal roll-call tally.
The board did not take further formal action on the bylaws at the meeting; Thomas said staff will forward the approved draft to the council for its consideration. The board set its next regular meeting for April 9 at 10:00 a.m.
