Downtown update: Taste of Baker draws larger crowd; Port Plaza fundraising inches forward

Staff said Taste of Baker had a record showing with about 35 vendors, roughly $53,000 in token sales and an estimated increase of about 300 attendees compared with prior years. Proceeds were distributed to vendors and the event continues to grow, the presenter said.
On Port Plaza fundraising, staff said the city had received a $20,000 grant from the Ford Family Foundation and that local pledges had risen from 16% to 61% of the $50,000 local pledge goal; the total Port Plaza fundraising target was described as about $240,000. Staff said they were waiting on additional grant decisions and hoped bids for the project would come in below the contingency estimate.
The update also listed upcoming downtown activities (Festival of Trees, Twinkle in Time tree lighting and parade) and business outreach events. Councilors and staff discussed tree height and decoration logistics but did not take formal action on the projects during the meeting.
