The council heard a planning report on a tower use permit application from PI Tower Development on behalf of Verizon Wireless for a District 2 site.
City planner explained that tower use permits are categorized by district; applicants must show District 1 or District 3 options are unsuitable before pursuing a District 2 site. The planning commission concluded the petitioner had not met that burden and recommended denial by a 5–1 vote after a public hearing lasting about an hour.
Council members elected to use the full 60-day statutory review period to receive the planning commission’s letter of recommendation at the next meeting and then take action; staff said the item will return for decision after the recommendation is filed.
No final council vote on the permit was taken at this meeting.
