Glenview honors environmental stewards and public safety responders

At its Feb. 4 meeting, the Glenview Board presented Environmental Sustainability Awards to local organizations for innovation and leadership, and recognized first responders who saved an officer’s life in June 2024.
The Glenview Board of Trustees used the Feb. 4 meeting to spotlight local sustainability initiatives and public‑safety response.
Chris Newman, chairman of the Environment & Natural Resources Commission, presented the 2024 Environmental Sustainability Awards. The Innovation Award went to the Glenview Park District and Greener Glenview for a sports‑equipment swap that diverted hundreds of items from landfills and raised more than $1,000 for youth leadership programs. Atiyah Middle School and Greener Glenview received a Leadership Award for a pollinator garden project that earned National Wildlife Federation certification and expands native habitat corridors in Glenview.
President Jenny and Chief Fitzpatrick also recognized the police, fire and dispatch teams involved in a June 4, 2024 response that saved officer Mark Amaryzian after he suffered a brain aneurysm at work. Chief Fitzpatrick recounted the quick actions of Officer Rob Frick, dispatcher Pete Simonetti and multiple fire and EMS personnel; Amaryzian addressed the room and called the responders his "heroes." The board presented plaques to teams and individuals and thanked staff for continuous support of public safety staffing and training.
The board encouraged resident participation in environmental programs (village year‑round composting available to existing Groot subscribers for an additional $21/month) and invited award recipients to remain for the business portion of the meeting.
