Councilmember Bob Williams introduced the resolution and said he had received multiple requests from citizens to honor DeDomenico. Williams described DeDomenico as a longtime participant in the South Meriden Youth League and an avid pickleball player. Majority Leader Sonia Jelks noted the item had been considered by the city's naming and dedication committee in the past; the committee is currently inactive for lack of members, and the council voted to hear the request directly.
Council members discussed placement and recognition details; Williams said the family plans a small plaque and that the honoree's foundation will likely provide the marker. Council members who spoke described the dedication as a fitting tribute and emphasized the family's role in supporting the memorial.
The clerk conducted a roll call and each council member voted "Aye." The motion passed unanimously (10-0). The resolution directs city staff to work with the family and parks department on placement and a plaque, and to record the dedication per the city's procedures.
The council did not specify additional funding for installation beyond arranging for a plaque; supporters said the family foundation would likely cover the marker.
