Yavapai supervisors approve legal-research contract changes, fleet purchases and several sheriff grants/contracts

County Attorney Dennis McGrane described a Westlaw contract modification related to a new product with embedded AI features; the board approved the modification after discussion of legal‑research safeguards. Public Works Director Roger McCormick requested and received approval to purchase nine lighter-weight fleet vehicles (two SUVs and seven trucks) for $470,000, which the director said would leave the department under its $510,000 budgeted amount.
The sheriff presented three items that the board approved unanimously: a one-year, $90,000 government-relations contract with Marif Fuentes (with potential 1‑year extensions), a grant agreement with Arizona DPS to continue funding human‑trafficking detectives, and a $600,000 appropriation to develop rural scenarios for a virtual law‑enforcement training platform. The sheriff said those appropriations were largely pass-through or grant-funded and would support radio upgrades, satellite communications and reentry-program staffing funded through special appropriations.
Board members repeatedly praised the sheriff’s office for securing outside funding. The approvals were recorded by voice vote and by the clerk.
