Victorville — The City Council on Tuesday awarded a construction contract to Veterans Communication Services Inc. for $217,794.50 to install 21 new security cameras at Hook Park, the Victorville Police Station and the 8th Street Community Center and to add server equipment hosted at City Hall.
Staff said the Phase 1 deployment replaces unsupported camera technology and will integrate with the city's Avigilon video platform. Community Services staff and IT representatives described a phased approach: begin with offsites that already have fiber and network switches, then expand to parks and traffic signals as infrastructure permits. Officials stressed the system will provide playback and on‑demand real‑time views but will not be continuously manned 24/7; the platform will be a tool for investigations and situational awareness.
Council members asked where feeds would be monitored, how locations are selected and whether mobile units could be redeployed to address illegal dumping and other desert‑area issues. Staff said monitoring will be available through an Avigilon viewer at City Hall and the police station, and that future phases would rely on available fiber and connectivity or alternative wireless technologies.
The council unanimously approved the contract award. Staff said additional phases will be brought to the council as procurement and infrastructure needs are identified.
