Futrell described the project as "a $65,000,000 adventure" and said staff wanted a short continuance to review financing mechanisms, engage the chief financial officer and work further with the architect before returning with a recommendation.
Futrell noted that breaking ground would still be at least two years away if approved now and emphasized sensitivity to rising construction costs. Councilmembers agreed to either allow staff time for a brief review or to vote; after public comment (none for the item), a motion to continue the item was made, seconded and carried unanimously.
Staff said they planned a site tour of the existing police station with council members and would bring the item back in July with additional financing options and cost analysis.
No architect contract was executed at the meeting; work on the project will proceed only after staff returns with the supplemental analysis and the council gives direction.
