House adopts civility and law-enforcement appreciation resolutions; police leaders address chamber

The Delaware House on Jan. 13 adopted two Senate concurrent resolutions by voice vote: Senate Concurrent Resolution 125, recognizing Jan. 9, 2026 as Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, and Senate Concurrent Resolution 124, advancing civility and strengthening discourse in the Delaware General Assembly.
Representative VanderVriend introduced SCR 125 on the floor and asked the chamber to concur; members offered expressions of appreciation for law enforcement. Colonel William D. Crotty, speaking on behalf of the Delaware Association of Chiefs of Police and the Delaware State Police, accepted the recognition and thanked legislators for the resolution. Crotty referenced the recent murder of Corporal Matthew Ty Snook and described law enforcement's commitment to professionalism and service. "The Delaware law enforcement community stands proud of how we serve with care and dignity in our community," Crotty said.
Members also urged civility in chamber debate. Leader Dukes introduced SCR 124 and recalled advice from a predecessor about maintaining respect in the House; he asked members to lead by example. The resolutions were adopted by voice vote; no recorded roll calls were requested for either measure.
