Commissioners report progress on Lawrence abolition-and-reform district National Register nomination

"We are now at the point where Steve and I have gone back and forth, and we've agreed upon a narrative or the memo that's gonna go to MAS Historical Commission," Michael said. He added the team is assembling an itemized list of properties with brief statements explaining how each property ties to the district's themes; once the document is finalized the commission will prepare a map to accompany the submission.
Michael said the materials will be shared with commission staff and members for review before submission to the Massachusetts Historical Commission, noting that prior consultant work had identified a broader district that needed to be narrowed and clarified.
Next steps: finalize the itemization of properties, prepare a map consistent with the documentation, and circulate the nomination materials to commission members for comment before filing with the state.
