Trustee Baskett, serving as bond committee chair, said the committee will expand to a committee of the whole so "the whole board can work towards common understanding" and recommended two March meeting dates for bond work. She also proposed a "deep study session" focused on Thurston that would bring technical experts and clarify what the committee called "misinformation" circulating in the community.
Trustee Wilkerson and others pressed for concrete alternatives to the current Thurston plan, including staging options that could move some students to Logan or Old Logan temporarily. Wilkerson asked for an alternative plan that includes qualitative and cost impacts and suggested preparing a plan by the board’s next meeting because the capital projects team said it must have direction before ordering long‑lead items and issuing RFPs.
Superintendent Parks and bond staff said they will work quickly to assemble the requested materials but cautioned that not all trustees’ schedules were finalized for proposed meeting dates. Staff confirmed tentative bond committee meetings for March 5 and March 19 and said the team would aim to hold study sessions before those dates where possible.
Capital projects staff also briefed trustees on procurement realities during first briefings for Slauson Middle School, New Logan and Dickin Elementary. Presenters emphasized ordering long‑lead items (mass timber panels and geothermal components) now to avoid supply‑chain delays and cited sustainability benefits for cross‑laminated timber.
Trustees agreed to submit written questions to the bond chair so staff can prioritize responses in the study session. No formal policy decision on Thurston siting or staging was taken; the board reserved those choices for future meetings pending study‑session findings.
