Board grants six-month extension to Atlantis Development for RC property purchase option

The Muskegon County Board of Public Works approved a second, six-month extension of an option agreement for Atlantis Development Company LLC on approximately 90 acres of Resource Recovery property.
Dave Johnson of the Resource Recovery Center described background for the request: Atlantis is working to remove a restricted covenant tied to boron found at elevated levels on the county’s larger property in the early 2000s. Johnson said the covenant affects the larger 11,000-acre parcel, and Atlantis asked for more time to separate the roughly 90 acres the company intends to acquire from the restricted area.
Johnson said the county no longer sees the previously reported high boron levels on the parcel in question and that the buyer is working with the state agency (referred to as "Eagle" in the discussion) to resolve the covenant. Commissioners asked whether the extension would continue if the covenant were not removed by the new deadline; Johnson said the company might request another extension if needed. The motion to grant the six-month extension was made and carried.
