County board authorizes application for up to $500,000 recycling infrastructure grant

The Muskegon County Board of Public Works voted to authorize the county, in partnership with the Muskegon Conservation District, to apply for an Eagle recycling infrastructure grant of up to $500,000.
Mr. Bandenbach told the board the request is atypical because the grant request for proposals was released late, leaving limited time to finalize exact project scope. He said staff expect to seek funding for contractors and strategic placement of recycling compactors for cardboard and plastics, and that they will consult with three or four municipalities about hosting machines before returning to the board with specifics if the grant is awarded.
Commissioner Nash moved the authorization; Vice Chair Herman supported the motion and the board approved it. Staff said they did not expect the application to exceed the $500,000 cap and will return to the board with project specifics and a plan for implementation if awarded.
