The Muskegon County Human Services Committee authorized public health to work with purchasing to seek a request for qualifications (RFQ) for body removal and transport services for deceased individuals in county medical examiner cases, with the action (HS 2510‑56) approved pending corporate counsel review to ensure compliance with new state requirements.
Public Health Director Cathy Moore told the committee that the county had separated removal and transport services from the medical examiner contract last year and that Michigan passed a law in May 2025 establishing registration and certification requirements and vehicle condition standards for medical transport providers. "The law has changed," Moore said, and the county's new contract will need to meet the state law; she recommended corporate counsel review the contract language before procurement proceeds.
The motion was moved by Commissioner Sears and supported by Commissioner Cook; it passed by voice vote. The authorization directs staff to prepare an RFQ and secure counsel review so any future contract meets state certification requirements.
