Stark County panel recommends approval of Skyland replat for 15.06-acre parcel

The Stark County Planning and Zoning Commission on Jan. 29 voted to recommend approval of MSP 01-2026, a minor subdivision replat that would convert three existing lots into two on a 15.06-acre property in the Skyland Subdivision.

Jason Craft, who identified himself as the applicant’s representative, said buyers approached the owner seeking larger parcels. "They didn't want 10 acres… they would more like to just have 7 and a half," Craft said, describing the motivation for combining three 5-acre lots into two roughly 7.5-acre parcels.

County planner Steve Josephson told commissioners the replat would affect three lots in the northwest portion of the subdivision and recommended approval with one condition: at the time of recordation the applicant must rerecord the subdivision’s restrictive covenants so the residents’ responsibility for the internal roadway is preserved. "Staff recommends approval subject to that 1 condition," Josephson said, adding that the applicant submitted a revised plat responding to consulting-engineer comments.

A commissioner moved that "the Stark County Planning and Zoning Commission recommend approval of MSP 01-2026 as depicted in the application material," a second was given, and the commission conducted a roll-call vote. Commissioners Nicholas, Bair, Freilich, Claris, Murphy, Goldsmith and the chair voted "aye," and the motion carried unanimously.

Chair said the commission’s recommendation will be presented to the Stark County Commission at its meeting next Tuesday.

Details and next steps: the approved recommendation is conditional on rerecording the restrictive covenants at plat recordation; the county commission will consider the item next week. If approved by the county commission the plat will be recorded with those conditions in place.
