Committee hears Telkop CEU update and reviews Lion’s Quest curriculum for schools and justice programs

"We have 30 people registered right now," Speaker 1 said, describing plans for an eight-hour morning session that requires registration because of room capacity; the evening session will be shorter and open to the public without required registration.
Why it matters: committee members said offering CEUs helps attract professional attendees (nurses, law enforcement, juvenile court staff) and that providing accessible community sessions can educate parents and residents. Speaker 5 noted two uniformed deputies would staff the evening session for security and that officers need to arrive 45 minutes early.
Lion’s Quest and local implementation: Speaker 2 presented the Lion’s Quest curriculum — describing it as a long-running, evidence-based social-emotional program with versions for kindergarten through high school and a component used with incarcerated populations in some jurisdictions. Speaker 2 offered a one-month license for committee members to review and suggested pilot implementation in a single grade or collaboration with juvenile court services. "It's a phenomenal program," Speaker 2 said, and invited committee members to schedule a demonstration or Zoom review to see materials and evidence.
Next steps: Speaker 2 will provide the curriculum materials for committee review and is scheduled to present at the next ACT meeting. The committee agreed to coordinate outreach for the Telkop sessions (social media, flyers, chamber communications, and possibly radio) and to finalize logistics — including security and CE certificate billing — before the event.
