On training, a committee member noted there were no FEMA trainings broadly applicable to the group in the immediate term but shared a free regional crisis communications class (June 2, in Iowa City) and invited safety committee members to county emergency preparedness meetings.
The group also discussed AED replacement. A committee member said the Greater Jefferson County Area Foundation grant cycle is open and that its June 1 deadline could support a new AED purchase; the health department representative volunteered to apply for a pediatric‑capable AED for the health department and to include a courthouse unit in the application. Members noted existing AEDs may be old, that batteries and pads require maintenance, and that refurbished units or redistribution to locations lacking AEDs were options if new units are purchased.
IMWCA representative Stacy offered to send study slides and recommended product links (she cited winterwalking.com for footwear product recommendations) to help departments evaluate choices, and she confirmed IMWCA grant funding is conditional on having an adopted policy. The committee agreed to request product samples and to meet with department managers to finalize needs before applying for grants or placing orders.
