The Jefferson County Board of Supervisors approved two PRN (as-needed) EMT hires and accepted grant funding to purchase AEDs for county facilities.
The board approved hiring Avery Bolen at $17 per hour and Leila Fisher at $17.15 per hour, both with anticipated start dates of Aug. 4, 2025, contingent on completion of required physicals and onboarding. The motions were moved, seconded and passed by voice vote.
Public-health staff reported that the Greater Jefferson County Area Foundation awarded funding to buy two automated external defibrillators (AEDs) — one for the health department and one for the courthouse. The health department will purchase the devices, submit paid invoices and request reimbursement as a pass-through; staff said they would request a budget amendment if vendor pricing rises and additional county contribution is necessary.
Supervisors asked about training and logistics; staff said they will provide basic operational updates and usage guidance but the grant does not include certified training for the public.
What's next: Staffing onboarding steps and equipment procurement will proceed; staff will return to the board with invoices and any required budget amendment requests.
