County public works staff told the Jefferson County Board of Supervisors they expect to finish placing about 1,400 tons of contractor rock this week, weather permitting, and that the Breedville Road Bridge approaches have been completed with riprap and wing-armoring remaining before asphalt work can proceed.
"They got the approaches done on the Breedville Road Bridge. So this week, coal will be in to get graded for asphalt," Speaker 6 reported, noting the contractor sequence and riprap placement to protect abutments and shoulders.
The board also discussed a Quince road incident that resulted in a vehicle flip. Speaker 6 reminded members that some rural Level B roads are intended for limited, lower-maintenance farm access and are maintained less frequently. He said the county closes or gates routes only after public hearings and that reclassification or vacation of roads is handled case by case.
On Lockridge, Speaker 6 said crews will wait to avoid leaving untreated rock surfaces until the next contractor is ready to follow in sequence; he emphasized coordinating chips and paving to limit disruption. No formal votes were taken; staff will continue construction scheduling and cleanup of an oil/diesel spill reported near the Quince incident.
