County authorizes assessment of courthouse camera system; vendor warns of Windows 10 end-of-support

The Jefferson County Board of Supervisors authorized a vendor assessment of the courthouse security-camera system after the county's DVR stopped recording, leaving only live view available.
Technology vendor (Speaker 9) told the board the DVR is broken and that older cabling inside the building may need replacement, which can be the largest portion of the cost. He estimated that a basic evaluation could take a few hours and cost several hundred dollars at his hourly rate; a complete replacement with new cabling and cameras could run into the low five figures depending on scope. "If you have 10 cameras and a DVR, you're probably talking about $6 or $7,000 in equipment," Speaker 9 said, while noting that new cabling could increase the price.
Speaker 1 moved and the board voted to authorize PCS to send a technician to inspect the DVR and camera wiring, document the system and provide options and cost estimates. The motion passed by voice vote.
During the same discussion, Speaker 9 warned that Microsoft will end mainstream Windows 10 support soon, urging county departments to check critical software for Windows 11 compatibility to avoid security and insurance gaps. The board asked department heads to review software compatibility and report back.
