Conservation board reports funds and campground revenue; trail paving planned

The Jefferson County Conservation Board presented its annual report to the supervisors covering July 1, 2024–June 30, 2025, highlighting campground development, grant awards and upcoming projects.
Conservation staff reported a Destination Iowa grant of $450,000 plus ARPA and county match dollars for Prairie Ridge Campground development and mentioned a Land and Water Conservation Fund award of about $144,000 that requires a 50/50 match. Cumulatively, staff said roughly $700,000 in outside funding has been assembled toward a trail-paving project on the Cedar View Trail and related improvements.
Campground revenue was mixed: the new campground brought in approximately $10,000 in its partial season while an older campground (Jefferson County Park) showed revenue declines from previous peak years. Staff noted heavy reliance on grant and outside funds to cover capital work — nearly $700,000 was spent on the new campground beyond the regular budget last year — and asked the board to consider additional publicity to boost use.
Board members thanked staff for the report; no formal action beyond receipt of the report was taken.
