Board approves bridge-inspection contract, fuel-tank purchase and ambulance repair

At its Jan. 12 meeting the Jefferson County Board of Supervisors approved a set of maintenance and equipment items: a continuing contract for bridge inspections with Calhoun Burns, authority to purchase replacement fuel tanks for satellite maintenance shops, and authorization to repair an ambulance to return it to service.
County Engineer (S5) said Calhoun Burns has performed inspections for years and maintains a bridge database that reduces startup costs for inspections; he recommended continuing with the firm despite a modest unit-price increase. The board approved the contract by voice vote.
On fuel tanks, the engineer reported a leak at the Germanville tank and presented two quotes: FS at $5,160 per tank (if three are purchased) and Elliott Oil at $5,610. He said cleanup and landfill costs were under $1,000, and that budget amendments would be used to reallocate funds toward a replacement purchase. The board moved to approve the purchase (voice vote in favor) and discussed whether to replace one tank now or stagger one per year.
Ambulance Director John (S7) presented a repair estimate that supervisors said would restore a unit to service; the repair was budgeted in the current maintenance line and the board authorized the $12,000 repair by motion and voice vote.
