County engineer: Libertyville Road, Grama Tree bridge projects moving; federal grant shows progress

On the Grama Tree bridge, the engineer said the project includes federal funds and therefore additional work on adjacent slopes to meet federal compliance standards. "It's just it's a slow process," he said of federal grant paperwork and timelines, noting the last grant took about 18 months from approval to paperwork completion.
The engineer reported he had briefed the Libertyville City Council and described local concerns over road closures and flagging for resident access during construction. He urged staff and supervisors to watch the federal grant timeline; the engineer noted the House had approved one community-improvement grant and the Senate may act soon, which could influence scheduling for related projects.
The board did not take a final construction decision at the meeting; the updates were informational and to guide upcoming budget and scheduling conversations.
