Board receives first readings of live-streaming, nurse-time and seizure-safe school policies

At its meeting the board received first readings of multiple policy changes intended to ensure compliance with new model language and state timelines. Dr. Brown presented revisions to the BE board-meetings policy and an accompanying BEA addition that implements a live-streaming requirement (the policy language lists a compliance effective date of Jan. 1, 2026). Trustees asked how the district would comply in the event of technical disruptions and sought clarification on the model policy's requirement to post recordings within seven days if a live stream fails; policy staff said the district's interpretation is to maintain a recording on the back end and post the recording within seven days.

Dr. Brown also presented a revision to GCLE to incorporate full-time school nurses and a new policy, JLCG (seizure-safe schools), effective July 1, 2025, that requires adoption of seizure-specific training for staff. Trustees raised minor editorial corrections to GCLE wording and Dr. Brown agreed to bring cleaned-up language at second reading and to return the policies for adoption at the scheduled second reading in October.

The board took no formal vote on the policy items during the first reading; trustees requested a second reading with the clarified editorial changes and a staff-provided interpretation of live-stream disruption protocols.
