Lighting district and bond: After a public hearing, the board adopted a resolution authorizing street-lighting improvements in the North Hempstead Lighting District and separately adopted a bond resolution authorizing up to $1,600,000 in bonds to finance the work. A finance department representative, Steven Pollock, explained that items 6 and 7 were separated because they relate to a town-operated special district and bond counsel required separate handling. One board member asked that the town be prepared to respond to resident complaints about LED brightness via 311 and consider warmer-tone fixtures in residential areas; officials said they would consider the request.
SEQRA and bond-financing findings: The board adopted findings and determinations under the State Environmental Quality Review Act for the projects to be financed by the bonds and accepted the associated financing resolutions.
Other actions: The board adopted an ordinance removing a handicapped parking spot on 6th Street in Garden City Park because the prior holder is deceased and the spot is no longer needed. The board also adopted an amendment to the fire protection agreement with the Rosslyn Fire Companies to increase the 2024 contribution to the length-of-service award program. Several additional bond and capital appropriation resolutions (items 9–14) were approved as a consent calendar.
