Council approves ordinances to accept donations for police and fire programs

The Richmond City Common Council approved Ordinance 2-20-26 and Ordinance 3-20-26 on second reading Jan. 20, authorizing the city to receive donations for Richmond Police Department and Richmond Fire Department programs, respectively.
Both ordinances were presented on second reading as public hearings. The council asked for public comment; no members of the public spoke either in favor or in opposition. A councilor moved to engross each ordinance, a second was recorded, and the council then called the question.
Ordinance 2-20-26 passed on a recorded roll call in which councilors voiced assent (recorded as eight in favor). For Ordinance 3-20-26 the finance committee representative noted the committee recommended passage and the council completed the second-reading actions and passed the ordinance.
Councilors made no substantive amendments during the meeting. Both ordinances are effective according to statutory timing for municipal ordinances and will permit the police and fire departments to accept donations for program support.
