Conservation board reports campground expansion, habitat work and revenue gains
Summary
Conservation board staff reported completing the Willow Creek Campground expansion and cabin construction, increasing campground and cabin revenue compared with the prior year, conducting prescribed burns and habitat restoration, and running seasonal community programs such as Troutfest.
Nick presented the conservation board's annual report for the fiscal period July 1, 2024–June 30, 2025, outlining completed and ongoing projects, revenue figures and programming.
Highlights included completion of the Willow Creek Campground expansion (increasing campsites from five to 17), construction and rental of a cabin, painting of a silo at Hawkeye Point, prescribed burns covering 102 acres and restoration planting covering roughly 49 acres of prairie. Nick said campsite revenue at Willow Creek rose to $11,715 for the fiscal year (up from $1,902 the previous fiscal year) and that Hawkeye Point camping revenue increased to $9,765 (from about $6,500). Cabin rentals also generated modest income.
The report described community programs — Troutfest, outdoor adventure nights and educational uses of the lodge and classroom — and noted the conservation board's role in wildfire response and habitat management. Nick said the board plans to repeat seasonal-site drawings for campsites in the coming year.
No board approval was required for the report; it was presented for information.
