The Bloomington Common Council on Jan. 7 elected Councilmember Asari as council president, Councilmember Zulek as vice president and Councilmember Daley as parliamentarian during its 2026 organizational meeting.
Councilmember Ruff nominated Asari for president, identifying Zulek for vice president and Daley as parliamentarian; the slate was seconded and approved by a voice vote with no recorded opposition. Asari then took the presiding seat and outlined goals for the presidency, saying the role should "serve the other members of the council," run meetings "crisp[ly]" and improve internal communication so members are "aware of what's going on in the rest of the city."
Zulek described the vice president as a supporting role ready to "offer seconds and support for the president" and said she plans to center "the people of Bloomington at the center of our political universe." Daley, who has served as parliamentarian, said he would continue a "neutral, prepared" approach to help meetings run smoothly and consistently.
After the vote the council shifted seating and moved on to committee and board appointments for the year. The election was handled by voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded for the officer slate in the transcript.
