Michigan City finance committee recommends docket, reports $3.67M Riverboat and $1.03M Rainy Day balances

The Michigan City Common Council Finance Committee on Jan. 20 recommended approval of the meeting docket and unanimously approved a statement of cash positions, the committee announced.

An unidentified finance committee member called the meeting to order at 6:06 p.m. and asked whether members had reviewed the dockets and whether there were questions for Mary Lynn, identified in the audience; committee members said there were none. The committee then moved to recommend approval of the docket. "So moved," and "Second," were recorded; the speaker identified the mover as Councilman Beatri and the seconder as Councilman Dr. Cora and said the committee approved the recommendation unanimously.

The same unidentified committee member read the statement of cash position for Jan. 20, 2026: "Riverboat Fund, we have $3,672,966.52," and "Rainy Day Fund with a balance of $1,025,760.42," for a combined total of $4,088,076.94. The speaker said the amounts would also be reviewed during the full council meeting. A motion to approve the cash position was made and seconded; the transcript names Councilman Gucci as the seconder for that approval and records unanimous approval by the committee.

The chair opened the floor for public comment and, after a brief pause, noted that none were offered. A motion to adjourn was made and seconded by Councilor Dr. Cooper, and the meeting was declared adjourned (the transcript reads the meeting was adjourned at "6 well, 16 AM"; earlier the meeting was called at 6:06 p.m., and the adjournment time is reported here as approximately 6:16 p.m.).

The committee noted it will review the docket amounts again at the full council meeting.
